NVQ Level 2 Diploma in Construction and Cabling Operations when Building an External Fibre Network
This is a new Level 2 National Qualification Diploma developed by our ITC in-house specialist Design Team and partner company Premium Construction Consultancy (PCC), in association with GQA Qualifications, to meet the needs of Industry and people working in Fibre Networks Infrastructure build activities.
This NVQ L2 qualification will be delivered in a working environment so candidates should be already in employment. The qualification is aimed specifically at those people carrying out general construction, poling and cabling operations when building an external fibre network.
The modular nature of the qualification will give candidates the opportunity to develop skills and competence in a range of network build activities, and to demonstrate craft-competency and under-pinning knowledge in those skills.
What is Required from Candidates?
GQA qualifications are made up of a number of Units that have a credit value (credits). These Credits must be achieved in the correct combination from Mandatory and Optional Units: the qualification has 2 Mandatory Units and 3 Optional Units and additionally Candidates will select the required credits from one of 7 Pathways.

- Establishing Work Area Protection and Safety in the Workplace
- Segregating the Area for Highway Works in the Workplace
- Interpreting Fibre Network Design Plans and Utility Drawings in the Workplace

- Pathway 1: Construction Methods for Duct and Microduct Installation
- Pathway 2: Construction Methods for the Installation of Fibre Network Access Chambers
- Pathway 3: Construction Methods for the Installation and Recovery of Poles
- Pathway 4: Construction Methods for Installation of Fibre Network Street Cabinets
- Pathway 5: Construction Methods for the Installation of Underground Fibre Cables
- Pathway 6: Construction Methods for the Installation of Overhead Fibre Cables

- Locating and Protecting Utilities Apparatus and Sub-Structures

Achieving the combination of Mandatory units and the correct choice of Optional units and the chosen Pathway, will mean the qualification has been achieved and GQA will provide the Diploma with the qualification title.
Assessment Guidance
Evidence of Performance and Competence is required. Evidence of performance should be demonstrated by activities and outcomes and should be generated in the workplace. Evidence of knowledge can be demonstrated through performance and/or by responding to questions.
